Our Approach to Tropical Disease Elimination

Integrated community care, practical research and prevention for underserved communities in Uganda.

Integrated Community Care

We bring detection, care and prevention for skin neglected tropical diseases closer to underserved communities. Our approach works through existing community structures, including Village Health Teams and frontline health workers, with referral where needed.

Research and Evidence

Our research investigates disease distribution, risk factors and the processes involved in disease development. Studies on podoconiosis are designed to inform the identification of affected communities, earlier diagnosis and approaches to prevention and care.

Prevention and Recovery

Our approach includes foot hygiene, protective footwear and structured self-care, alongside support for mobility and participation in daily activities. School gardens complement this work by providing practical agricultural learning and aiming to supplement school meals.

Sustainable Access to Treatment

IFOTRODE plans to establish a regulated procurement and distribution pathway for the dimeticone formulation used in tungiasis treatment. The proposed model would supply institutional partners and help maintain treatment availability beyond individual grants. Implementation depends on regulatory requirements and operational feasibility.
